Pacific Palisades is an affluent residential community within Los Angeles County and the City of Los Angeles with a population slightly exceeding 27,000. Topanga State Park, Malibu and Topanga are located to the west and Santa Monica to the southeast. The Santa Monica Mountains are to the north. Rustic Canyon Park, Temescal Canyon Park, and Will Rogers State Historic Park and Polo Club are nearby. Pacific Palisades is known as the area “where the mountains meet the sea”. It is home to many Hollywood celebrities and media executives and is part of the Westside.

 

Palisades Recreation Center

The Palisades Recreation Center, located in Pacific Palisades, features two gyms, picnic tables, barbeques, basketball courts, a baseball diamond, a lighted football field, lighted tennis courts, lighted volleyball courts, and a children's play area. The facility is maintained and operated by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks.

 

Pacific Palisades Historical Society

The Pacific Palisades Historical Society was established in 1972 and is actively involved in collecting, documenting, and preserving historical photographs, documents, and other valuable memorabilia relating to Pacific Palisades, the Palisades Highlands, and the surrounding area.

 

The Strand

Marvin Braude Bike Trail

The Strand, renamed the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, is a paved bicycle path that runs along the Pacific Ocean shoreline in Los Angeles County. It starts at Will Rogers State Beach in the Los Angeles Community of Pacific Palisades and ends at Torrance County Beach in Torrance at the base of the Palos Verdes Peninsula Hills. The 22 mile bike path runs through Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Ocean Park, Venice, Playa del Rey, Marina del Rey, El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Torrance. The midpoint is in Playa del Rey. The Strand is the most popular bike path in Southern California.

 

Riviera Country Club

Pacific Palisades is home to the Riviera Country Club which has an 18 hole championship golf course designed by George C. Thomas, Jr. The private club offers golf, tennis, 27 guest suites, luxury dining, and more. The club opened in 1926 and was originally known as the Los Angeles Athletic Club.

 

Theatre Palisades

Theatre Palisades is a small, 125 seat community theater in Pacific Palisades established in 1963. Generally, the theater produces 5 major productions each year with 18 performances per production. In addition, the theater produces 2 shows each year for children, chamber music concerts, and special programs.

 

Las Casas Grenola

Las Casas Grenola is a local overlook in Pacific Palisades where the undeveloped Las Pulgas Canyon can be viewed. The overlook is located where North Las Casas becomes North Grenola Street. The views of the coastal canyons and Pacific Ocean are quite spectacular.

 

Inspiration Point

Inspiration Point, in the Santa Monica Mountains, is a scenic outlook in Will Rogers State Historic Park located in the Pacific Palisades area of Los Angeles just northwest of Santa Monica. Inspiration point is north of Sunset Boulevard off the Backbone Trail at an elevation of 900 feet. The views of the Pacific Ocean, Santa Monica Mountains and city are absolutely magnificent.

 

Will Rogers State Beach Bicycle Path

The Will Rogers State Beach Bicycle Path is a 1.4 mile bike path that runs from Temescal Canyon Road in Pacific Palisades southeast to Santa Monica. It is the northern end of The Strand, also known as the Marvin Braude Bike Trail.

 

Rivas Canyon Park

Rivas Canyon Park is located in the Pacific Palisades area of the Santa Monica Mountains between Will Rogers State Park and Temescal Gateway Park. The park, which is in the City of Los Angeles, is absolutely beautiful, and offers incredible views.

 

J. Paul Getty Museum

Getty Center - Getty Villa

The J. Paul Getty Museum, also known as The Getty, consists of the Getty Center in the Brentwood community of Los Angeles and the Getty Villa in the Pacific Palisades community of Los Angeles. The J. Paul Getty Museum, established in 1954, is an art museum. The primary campus in Brentwood features Western art from the Middle Ages to the present, while the Getty Villa features art from ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria.

 

Palisades Public Library

The Palisades Public Library is part of the Los Angeles Public Library System. It includes a children's area, teen area, study rooms, and lots of computers. It is a great place to visit.

 

Bel-Air Bay Club

The Bel-Air Bay Club was built by Alphozo Bell in 1927-1928 on two sites totaling 31 acres of prime property in Pacific Palisades. The club is also known as “the paddle tennis club” having been the home club of several national champion players. The Bel-Air Bay Club consists of two facilities separated by Pacific Coast Highway. It includes more than a quarter mile of beautiful beachfront offering absolutely incredible views of Santa Monica Bay, Catalina Island, and much of the coastline. The club has guest rooms available and first class facilities for corporate meetings and large social events for 75 to as many as 600 people. The club is located between Malibu and Santa Monica.

 

Murphy Ranch

The Murphy Ranch is of historical interest. It is located in the Rustic Canyon area of Pacific Palisades which is within the City of Los Angeles. The ranch was actually a 55 acre compound built by Nazi sympathizers who used the fictitious name Jessie M. Murphy for the purpose of acquiring title to the property in 1933. The compound had several buildings, a bomb shelter, water storage tanks, a power generator, gardens, storage facilities, and security fences. After the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the declaration of war by Nazi Germany on the United States, local police occupied the compound and detained more than 50 Nazi sympathizers who expected Germany to defeat the United States. While some of the buildings have been destroyed by fire, much of the compound remains. The property is currently owned by the City of Los Angeles and is accessible by means of a two mile long trail from the intersection of Capri Drive and Castle Road in Pacific Palisades.
